Happy Birthday Banner - Did you know that the "Happy Birthday to You" melody was written by
two school teachers from Louisville, Kentucky, in 1893? That's right!
Patty and Mildred Hill originally intended the words to be a classroom greeting which they
called "Good Morning to All". No one knows who wrote the lyrics which were later
applied to the happy birthday melody. But the song was not copyrighted until 1935
and the song has been sold countless times for millions of dollars ever since. Time Warner bought
the rights in 1988 and they still own them. The bad news is that the rights do not expire until
2030, and it is technically a violation of the copyright law to sing it. But we won't tell.
